Section 01

Why Sizing Accuracy Matters

A graduation stole is worn for only a few hours, but it appears in every photograph of one of the biggest days of a graduate's life. This guide gives you exact, real measurements pulled directly from our own product specifications — not rounded estimates — so that whether you're outfitting a preschooler for a moving-up ceremony or an entire graduating class of seniors, the stole you order drapes the way you expect.

This Size Guide is issued by HRV Enterprises INC LLC, doing business as MyGradStoles ("MyGradStoles," "we," "us," or "our"), and applies to every stole sold through mygradstoles.com to customers in the United States and Canada. It works alongside — and does not replace — our Returns & Refund Policy, Shipping Policy, and Terms & Conditions.

Our sizing commitment

Every measurement in this guide is taken directly from the specification sheet used on our product pages and by our production team, so the numbers you read here are the same numbers used to cut every stole we make.

Section 02

Products Covered by This Guide

Every stole across our four product lines is built from the same base measurements and fabric described in this guide. Finish style, embroidery, or printing changes the look — not the underlying size chart.

Shop-By-Color Stoles

All color-specific pages (black, blue, gold, maroon, purple, and more) are the same construction and sizing described in this guide — only the base color changes.

Section 03

Standard Stole Dimensions

A stole is draped around the neck so that two equal-length panels hang down the front of the body. "Total length" below is the full stole measured tip to tip across both shoulders; "each side" is how far a single panel hangs down your front, from the back of the neck to the tip.

62"62 inches31 inches per side5 inchesAdult fit, shorter — Elementary/Middle, High School, petite adults
72"72 inches36 inches per side5 inchesAdult fit, longer — High School, University/College, taller adults
Why the width never changes

Every stole we manufacture, at every length, is cut to a consistent 5-inch width. This keeps embroidery, printing, and trim proportions identical across sizes, so a name or crest looks the same whether it's placed on a 50", 62", or 72" stole.

The 50-inch panel length is calculated the same way our 62" and 72" stoles are constructed (each side is exactly half of the total length). If your order needs a confirmed exact figure for an institutional spec sheet, contact us and we will verify it in writing before you order.

Section 04

Finding Your Size by Grade & Age

Use this as a starting point, then always confirm with your school, chapter, or ceremony organizer — some institutions specify one exact length for their entire graduating class.

Preschool & Kindergarten

Recommended: 50" or 62". Younger children generally sit better in the shorter 50" length; some preschool ceremonies use 62" for a fuller drape over a gown.

Elementary & Middle School

Recommended: 50", 62", or 72". Sizing depends heavily on the individual student's height — taller middle schoolers often prefer 62" or 72".

High School & University

Recommended: 62" or 72". Most adult wearers choose 72" for the fullest drape over a graduation gown; petite adults often prefer 62".

When in doubt, size up

A slightly longer stole photographs and drapes well; a stole that is too short can ride up during a ceremony. If a wearer is between two sizes, we generally recommend choosing the longer of the two.

Section 05

How to Measure Yourself at Home

If you'd rather confirm your fit than rely on the age chart alone, a soft measuring tape and two minutes are all you need.

1

Put on your graduation gown or the outfit you plan to wear

Stoles are draped over outerwear, so measure with your gown or robe on for the most accurate result.

2

Drape a ribbon or soft tape around your neck

Let both ends hang down the front of your body evenly, the way a stole naturally sits.

3

Mark your preferred end point

Most wearers like the tips to land between the waist and hip. Measure from the back of the neck down to that point on one side.

4

Compare your measurement to Section 3

Match your "each side" measurement to the closest column in the dimensions table — 25", 31", or 36" per side.

5

Still unsure? Ask us before you order

Send us your height and grade level at contact@mygradstoles.com or call +1 (361) 228-4910, and we'll recommend a size.

Section 06

Fabric & Material Information

Every stole in our catalog — graduation, religious, custom, or blank — is built from the same core materials and construction methods.

Shell Fabric

A lightweight, shiny satin fabric gives our stoles their signature sheen and smooth drape. The exact fiber content (for example, 100% polyester) is stated on the individual product listing and on the sewn-in fiber-content label attached to every stole, as required by federal textile labeling law (see Section 14).

Construction

Stoles are hand-sewn and, on our Blank Graduation Stoles, fully lined throughout for structure and a clean finish on both the front and reverse side. The fabric is shaped to comfortably fit a wide range of body types.

Personalization Layer

Names, dates, crests, and logos are added by embroidery (raised, stitched thread) or DTF/direct printing (flat, ink-based). Our team can advise which method best suits your artwork and fabric color.

Weight & Feel

The satin is intentionally lightweight so the stole drapes naturally over a gown rather than pulling at the shoulders or neck, even for young children.

Section 07

Finish Styles & Trim Options

The tip of your stole can be finished in four different shapes. This is a styling choice and does not change the total length or width listed in Section 3.

Plain Finish

A clean, straight-across cut at the tip. Simple and traditional.

Angled Finish

The tip is cut at an approximately 30-degree slant for a modern look.

Classic Finish

A V-shaped point at the tip — our most popular finish among graduates.

Tapered Finish

The stole narrows gradually along the last several inches to a slender tip.

Optional trim

A contrasting-color trim can be added along the outer edge of most finishes — for example, a Hunter Green stole with a Gold trim. Trim is a color/decoration option selected on the product page and does not add to the stole's overall length or width.

Section 08

Color Accuracy: Screen vs. Reality

We photograph every color under consistent studio lighting and use accurate digital swatches, but a few honest, unavoidable factors can cause a small difference between what you see on screen and what arrives at your door.

What can cause a slight color shift

  • Monitor, phone, and tablet screens are calibrated differently and can render the same color slightly warmer, cooler, brighter, or darker.
  • Satin's natural sheen reflects light, so a color can look slightly different in direct sun, indoor lighting, or camera flash.
  • Fabric is produced in dye lots, so there can be very minor shade variation between production runs, especially on large bulk orders placed months apart.
If exact color matching matters to you

For institutional programs matching a specific school color, or any order where an exact shade is critical, we recommend ordering a sample product first (Section 11) or requesting a physical swatch before placing a large order. For personalized items, your free digital proof reflects the design layout accurately, but final in-hand satin color can still shift slightly under different lighting, as described above.

Section 09

Care Instructions

Because a stole is a keepsake, not an everyday garment, gentle care keeps the satin shining and the embroidery or printing crisp for years.

Washing

  • Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent, or take it to a professional dry cleaner — this is our recommended method for every stole we sell.
  • Do not machine wash or tumble dry. Agitation and heat can dull the satin's sheen and distort embroidery.
  • Avoid bleach or harsh stain removers, which can discolor satin and printed artwork.

Ironing & Storage

  • If ironing is needed, use the lowest heat setting with a pressing cloth between the iron and the satin, and never iron directly over embroidery or printed text.
  • Hang on a padded hanger or lay flat between uses to prevent sharp creases.
  • Store away from direct sunlight and humidity to prevent fading and mildew over long-term keepsake storage.
A permanent care label is sewn into every stole

In line with federal care-labeling requirements (Section 14), each stole includes a permanent fabric label with official washing, drying, and ironing symbols. Always follow the sewn-in label first if it differs from this general guidance.

Section 10

Sizing for Custom & Personalized Orders

Stole size is one of the specification choices you make at checkout alongside color, text, and artwork, and it becomes part of the free digital proof we send you for approval before production begins.

  • Confirm your selected size matches Sections 3 and 4 of this guide before checking out.
  • Your digital proof will reflect the size you selected; double-check it during your review, the same way you check spelling and color.
  • A size change requested before you approve your proof is treated as a standard revision at no charge.
  • Once you approve your proof and production begins, the approved size is locked in as part of your specifications. If you later discover the size doesn't fit as expected, contact us — this situation is handled under the sizing exchange guidance in Section 18.
This guide works alongside our Custom & Personalized Order Policy

Full detail on the proof-and-approval process, revision limits, and what happens once production begins is in our Custom Graduation Stoles policy materials — this Size Guide simply supplies the dimensions referenced there.

Section 11

Bulk & Institutional Sizing

Schools, universities, honor societies, and student organizations ordering for a whole class or chapter can mix sizes within a single bulk order at the same wholesale pricing tier.

  • Submit a roster spreadsheet listing each student's name alongside their chosen stole size — this reduces both spelling errors and sizing mix-ups.
  • For a uniform look across an entire graduating class photo, most schools standardize on a single size (commonly 62" or 72" for high school and university).
  • For K-8 programs spanning a wide age range, we recommend collecting individual sizes per student rather than standardizing, since a 50" stole and a 72" stole can both belong to the same graduating group.
  • Our team is happy to review your roster and flag any size selections that look unusual for the stated grade level before production begins. Visit our Bulk Order page to get started.
Section 12

Country of Origin & Manufacturing Transparency

We believe transparency about how and where a product is made is part of accurate sizing and material information, not separate from it.

Who we are

MyGradStoles is operated by HRV Enterprises INC LLC, a company registered and headquartered in Illinois, United States. All orders, customer service, and production oversight are managed through our U.S. business.

Where stoles are made

Our stoles are manufactured overseas in India and imported into the United States for distribution to U.S. and Canadian customers. Each unit carries the country-of-origin marking required by U.S. Customs regulations (19 U.S.C. § 1304) and, for shipments into Canada, the equivalent Canadian textile labelling requirements described in Section 16.

Why this doesn't affect quality or your rights

Overseas manufacturing paired with U.S.-based distribution and customer service is standard and lawful for apparel sold in North America. It has no bearing on the accuracy of the measurements in this guide, your consumer protections under U.S. or Canadian law (Sections 14–17), or your ability to reach a real person at HRV Enterprises INC LLC with a question. If your school or institution needs origin documentation for procurement purposes, contact us and we will provide it.

Section 13

Children's Sizing & Product Safety

Because our 50" size and many 62" orders are worn by young children in Preschool, Kindergarten, and Elementary ceremonies, we take the additional U.S. federal requirements for children's wearing apparel seriously.

This federal law sets a mandatory flammability standard for textile wearing apparel sold in the United States, including children's garments and accessories like stoles. Our satin fabric is manufactured to meet this general wearing-apparel flammability standard.
Products primarily intended for children age 12 and under are subject to additional federal requirements, including permanent tracking information (manufacturer, location, and production batch) and, where applicable, a General Certificate of Conformity confirming compliance with applicable safety rules. Stoles ordered in child sizes for Preschool, Kindergarten, and Elementary ceremonies are treated as children's products under this framework.
Our children's-size stoles do not include loose beads, sequins, or small attachable hardware. Any embroidered or printed decoration is applied flat to the fabric. As with any accessory, adult supervision during wear by very young children is always recommended.
Keep away from open flame

As with any lightweight satin garment, keep children's stoles away from candles, stage lighting equipment, and other open-flame or high-heat sources during ceremonies and photography.

Section 14

U.S. Consumer Protection & Labeling Laws

This Size Guide is written to comply with — and to help you understand — the federal and state laws that govern how apparel sizing, materials, and care instructions must be described and labeled in the United States.

This federal law requires that textile products sold in the U.S. disclose the generic name and percentage of each fiber used, along with the manufacturer or importer's identity. Every stole's fiber content is stated on its product listing and on the permanent label sewn into the garment.
The FTC's Care Labeling Rule requires a permanent label disclosing at least one safe method of washing, drying, and ironing (or dry-cleaning only, where applicable). This is the legal basis for the sewn-in care label described in Section 9, and it takes precedence over general guidance if the two ever conflict.
U.S. Customs law requires imported goods to be legibly and permanently marked with their country of origin. As explained in Section 12, our stoles are manufactured in India and marked accordingly before distribution.
Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. §§ 2301–2312) and state implied-warranty law, every stole must reasonably match its description — including the size and material stated on the product page and in this guide. If a stole materially differs from its listed dimensions or fabric due to our error, it is covered under our Returns & Refund Policy.
Every state maintains a consumer protection statute prohibiting false or misleading product descriptions, including inaccurate size, material, or color claims. We design this guide, our product listings, and our photography specifically to avoid this. See the state-by-state reference table in Section 15.
HRV Enterprises INC LLC is registered and headquartered in Mount Prospect, Illinois. Our product descriptions and this guide are designed to comply with the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act (815 ILCS 505) in addition to the law of each customer's home state.
Section 15

U.S. State-by-State Consumer Protection Reference

Every U.S. state and the District of Columbia has its own consumer protection ("UDAP") statute requiring that advertised product descriptions — including sizing, material, and color — accurately match what a customer receives. Use the search box to find your state.

StateGoverning Consumer Protection StatuteWhat It Protects
Section 16

Canadian Labelling & Consumer Protection

Canadian customers are protected by federal textile labelling and advertising law, plus the consumer protection statute of their own province or territory. We design our sizing, material, and care information to meet both.

Canadian federal law requires consumer textile articles to carry a label disclosing generic fibre content and dealer identity, in both English and French, administered by the Competition Bureau of Canada. Stoles shipped to Canadian customers include this bilingual labelling.
Canada's federal Competition Act prohibits false or misleading representations about a product's size, material, performance, or origin. This guide and our product listings are written to give Canadian customers complete, accurate information before purchase.
Each Canadian province and territory maintains its own consumer protection statute (see the table in Section 17), generally requiring accurate disclosure of a product's material characteristics — including size and fabric — for internet and distance sales.
Québec's Charter of the French Language requires that commercial documentation offered to Québec consumers, including product labelling and care information, be available in French upon request. Québec customers may request this Size Guide and any product's fibre-content and care information in French by contacting contact@mygradstoles.com.

Changes to This Guide

We may update this Size Guide from time to time to reflect changes in our product specifications, materials, or legal requirements. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. If a measurement changes for a product you've already ordered, the specification in effect at the time of your order continues to apply to that order.
